Google Aims to Improve Browsing With More New AI Features

Google Lens on Desktop, Compare Tabs, and Rediscover History all have AI-powered components

Google wants to make it easier for you to find what you want using the Chrome browser.

Despite all the advances in technology, it's still hard to do things like comparing products or finding something you've already seen on a website somewhere at some point in the past. Google wants to ease those difficulties with these three new AI updates to Chrome Browser.

The new AI features were announced in blog post on The Keyword on Thursday, and include the addition of Google Lens to the desktop browser, and new AI-powered Tab Compare and Rediscover History features, but although all the features are coming to the US, you'll have to wait a few days to a few weeks to experience these features.

Google Lens on Desktop is the first feature you'll see, and Google assures it's "rolling out over the next few days." This bring Google Lens to your desktop and you can access it from any tab in your browser. Google Lens will also be tied to Chrome's AI, so you'll be able to ask questions and may even received AI Overviews in answer to those questions.

Next up is Tab Compare, Chrome's new AI-powered shopping comparison feature that will look at several different tabs and give you an AI-curated overview of the products on those pages. Shopping comparisons will be presented in table-format and will include information like pricing, specs, features, and even ratings. this feature will be available "in the next few weeks."

The feature that is farthest out—available "in the coming weeks"—is the Rediscover History feature, which integrates AI into your browsing history so you can use a natural language features to find websites that you've visited in the past. This is an optional feature, and Google says you can turn it off in your settings if you don't want its AI mucking around in your browsing history. Also, websites visited while in Incognito Mode won't appear in your history.
