Chromebook Plus With New Built-In Google AI Features

Magic Editor on Google Photos is exclusive to the new laptop

Even Chromebook users can get in on the AI-powered computer fun with these new machines.

The Google Chromebook Plus computers aren't a new line, but they are getting some new AI-powered features to take advantage of all that Gemini has to offer.

Google declared at the I/O Developer Converce that it's entered its "Gemini Era." Seemingly, this means the company is leaning into AI and all that it has to offer. That's super apparent in a press release shared with Lifewire that introduces new built-in AI features—like Help Me Write, Magic Editor, Chat With Gemini, and more—for Chromebook Plus laptops.

Some of the onboard features will initially be exclusive to the new Chromebook Plus laptops that were announced today, as well. For example, Magic Editor for Google Photos is an exclusive app that lets you edit photos with circle, tap, hold, drag, and pinch gestures. The Magic Editor will also make contextual suggestions to help you reimagine your images completely.

Additional features like Help Me Write and Generative AI wallpaper were announced earlier this year but will now come pre-installed on Chromebook Plus computers. If you've used Help Me Write before, you know it can help you write or rewrite text based on the tone you need to achieve. Generative AI backgrounds are now preinstalled for video calls and wallpapers, too. Google says they'll work with multiple video conferencing applications and Google AI can help you explore new options for these, as well.

Google's One AI Premium subscription plan for AI access is also available for 12 months with no subscription when you purchase a new Chromebook Plus. "The plan includes access to Gemini Advanced, 2TB of storage and Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail and more," wrote John Maletis, VP of ChromeOS, in the release.

All Chromebooks are also getting some new features, like simple set up with your Android phone, one-click access to Google Tasks, and and GIF recording. There's also a new Game Dashboard that give you more control over your gaming experience on Chromebook.
