The XGIMI Horizon Ultra 4K projector is a powerful, gorgeous digital projector that looks like it came off the set of Mad Men. Its optional floor stand amps the mid-century look up a notch and provides a fantastic way to place the projector around the room.

I've tried out the XGIMI Pro projector and added it to last year's Mother's Day gift guide, so I was excited to take a look at this updated "ultra" version.

I was wowed as I opened the box and removed this all-new, redesigned projector. It's simply gorgeous with the automatic, fabric-covered lens screen, the beautiful lines and color-matched accessories, including a simply beautiful and functional Ultra Floor Stand that just makes it all work together.

The XGIMI Horizon Ultra 4K projector drives its 3840 x 2160 pixels at a stunning 2300 lumens, making it bright in any room, even brightly lit ones. I'm able to watch my favorite streaming shows during the day and at night, regardless of the dimness of the room. The LED and laser tech the device pairs ensure a bright, accurate image on my wall.

The projector has an easy auto keystone and focus feature that analyzes its own angle and the shape of the projection to make sure the image is always clear and level. It even has a way to move the projection to avoid obstacles like air conditioning units, wall decorations, or light switches.

This XGIMI projector runs Android TV, so you can stream whatever service you might have via the built-in dual-band Wi-Fi 6. It's got a regular HDMI port, and an eARC HDMI port (which means it has an audio return channel for connecting stuff like soundbars), two USB ports, and one ethernet port if you don't want to use Wi-Fi.

The Harman Kardon speakers have been upgraded to 12W and provide solid, very listenable audio that outperforms my massive LG TV speakers, for sure. There's even a little faux-surround sound thrown in, thanks to the two full-range speakers with DTS tech.

There's also a fantastic Bluetooth remote included with the projector that gives you serious control from anywhere in the room; you don't need to point it at the projector to manage volume, brightness, or any other settings. When I wanted to set up auto-focus and auto-keystone features, it was a simple click on the gear button and easy navigation of the various menus with the directional keypad on the remote.

That Sweet XGIMI Floor Stand Ultra

Let's talk a bit about the stand, though. I've always had to find some other way to elevate projectors in my home, whether I used a music stand or a camera tripod and various adapters to get the projectors high enough to make sense for the room.

Called the Floor Stand Ultra, it matches the visual language of the XGIMI Horizon Ultra projector with plastic and metal. There's a little adaptor that screws into the universal tripod mount on the bottom of the projector, which then fits into the top receptacle on the stand. This allows for 360˚ rotation and 12˚ up and down tilt.

You can adjust the pole from 61 - 91 cm to fit your own needs, and it even has a hideaway system in the base for the big rectangle power adapter (you can also thread the power cord up through the pole to make everything look nice and neat.

It's bright, has all the tech you need to stream video over the internet or from a set-top box or gaming console, and just looks amazing in your living room.

It's super easy, then, to move this thing around. I basically leave it on the stand behind the couch, where it can project up to a claimed 200-inch screen onto my wall. I don't have 200 inches of wall space to spare, but I was able to project an image larger than my 65-inch HDTV.

It's easy to take the stand and projector apart, too, thanks to the easy connector. I can easily move both parts around the house, even upstairs or into the garage without having to unscrew anything.

Is the XGIMI Horizon Ultra Projector Worth It?

Look, not everyone wants to spend $1600 on a projector (or $200 more on a floor stand), but if you want best-in-class performance with an amazing, stylish design, the XGIMI Horizon Ultra Projector is the one to get. It's bright, has all the tech you need to stream video over the internet or from a set-top box or gaming console, and just looks amazing in your living room.
