The Conjuring is one of the most prolific horror movie franchises of the last decade, with three main entries and multiple prequels and spinoffs. The movies haven't come out in chronological order, so this guide will help you keep them straight.

How to Watch the ‘Conjuring’ Movies in Chronological Order 

The original 2013 film and its direct sequels are set during the 1970s and into the early 80s. The movies follow the fictional ghost hunting of real-life paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren.

However, the series has also produced several spinoffs that delve into the backstories of other characters, including the infamous haunted doll Annabelle. This has resulted in a timeline that spans about 30 years (1952 - 1981).

The Curse of La Llorona  Set in 1973 Los Angeles and follows social worker Anna and her two children as they contend with an evil spirit known as La Llorona. The Curse of La Llorona isn't an "official" Conjuring movie, but it shares a character and has a major reference to Annabelle. Rent or buy

Will There Be More ‘Conjuring’ Movies?

Plans are currently in the works for a fourth and final Conjuring movie, subtitled Last Rites. It'll be another story featuring the Warrens, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga returning. We don't know yet which case it's based on, but it's due out on September 5, 2025.

We've also heard that producers Peter Safran and James Wan want to make additional spinoffs and more entries in both the Annabelle and The Nun series, but no details have emerged yet.
