How to Turn Off an iPhone 15 Pro Using the Buttons

The easiest and quickest way to switch off an iPhone 15 Pro Max or Pro smartphone is to use the physical buttons on the device itself. Here are which buttons you need to use and how to use them to turn your phone off.

  1. Press the Side button on the right side of your iPhone and either Volume button on the left side for a couple of seconds.

    Only hold down one of the Volume buttons, Up or Down. Don’t press both.

  2. A Power switch should appear at the top of the screen labeled slide to power off.

  3. Drag the Power icon from the left all the way to the right. Your iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max should turn off.

How to Power Off an iPhone 15 Pro Using the Settings App

If one or more of the physical buttons on your iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max aren’t working properly, you can instead turn off your device using a software option in the iOS Settings app. Here’s how to perform an iPhone shutdown using iOS.

  1. Open Settings and tap General.

  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the menu and select Shut Down.

  3. Slide the Power button from left to right.

How to Use Siri to Turn Off Your iPhone 15 Pro

Arguably, the fastest way to turn off an iPhone is to simply tell Siri to do it. All you need to do is say either “Hey, Siri. Turn off my iPhone” or “Hey, Siri. Shut down my iPhone” and respond with “Yes” when asked to confirm your request.

How to Turn On an iPhone 15 Pro

To turn your iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max back on again, hold the Side button down for several seconds and then release it once the Apple logo appears on the screen. 

If you turned off your iPhone 15 Pro to fix some kind of technical issue, wait at least 30 seconds before turning it back on again.

How to Turn Off the iPhone 15 Pro Screen

To leave your iPhone 15 Pro on so that it can receive phone calls, messages, and notifications, and you just want the screen to turn off, press the Side button once. Press the Side button or tap the screen to wake it up.

All iPhone models automatically darken or turn their screens off after a few seconds; you don’t need to manually turn the screen off every time you put your phone down. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-lock to adjust how long your iPhone stays awake before the screen turns off.

With iOS 17, Apple introduced a new StandBy mode which displays widgets on an iPhone’s screen when the smartphone is charging and turned horizontally. If this feature annoys you, you can turn it off: Open Settings, select StandBy and then tap the green switch next to StandBy off.
