Samsung Drops New Galaxy Line With Wi-Fi 7-Enabled S24 Ultra

All three have Android 14 and One UI 6.1

Samsung's Galaxy S24 line of three new smartphones is everything you would expect it to be, running on the latest Android and Samsung operating systems.

The wait is finally over! Samsung made the new Galaxy S24 line of smartphones official during the Samsung Unpacked 2024 event.

The new Samsung Galaxy S24 line includes the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, as you might expect that it would. The surprises come in some of the capabilities of the phones.

Let's talk first about the S24 Ultra since it's the top-of-the-line. This thing is a 6.8-inch QHD+ beast with a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, a 120Hz refresh rate, and five (yes, I said five! cameras). Those five cameras include a 12 MP ultra-wide, 200 MP wide, 50 MP telephoto, 10 MP telephoto, and 12 MP front camera.

The S24 Ultra runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, has 12GB memory and storage options that range up to 1TB, and a 5,000 mAh battery that can charge up to 65 percent in around 30 minutes if you're using the 45W charging adapter (that is, of course, sold separately). It's also running on the latest Android 14 and One UI 6.1 interface with 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7, and Wi-Fi Direct Bluetooth v 5.3 capabilities.

The S24 and S24+ aren't quite as spiffy, though they still could be fairly capable. The S24 is 6.2-inch FHD while the S24+ is 6.7-inch QHD+, both offer the Dynamic AMOLED 2x Display and a 120Hz refresh rate. And while these devices are also running on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, they only have 4 cameras: a 12 MP ultra-wide, 50 MP wide, 10 MP telephoto, and 12MP front camera.

The S24 comes with 8GB memory and storage options up to 256GB, while the S24+ has 12GB memory with up to 256GB storage. The Galaxy S24 has a 4,000 mAh battery that can charge up to 50 percent in around 30 minutes and the S24+ has a 4,900 mAh battery that can charge up to 65 percent in about 30 minutes, but both require the option fast charger.

Of course, both are running the latest Android and One UI operating systems and Samsung's brand new Galaxy AI, but neither has Wi-Fi 7 capability. Instead, they offer 5G, LET, Wi-Fi 6E, and Wi-Fire Direct Bluetooth v5.3. The entire line is also eligible for Samsung's new 7-year plan for security updates and operating system updates.

Preorders for the new Galaxy S24 devices are now open, with the Galaxy S24 Ultra starting at $549 And the Galaxy S24 and S24+ starting at $349; in both cases, these prices are "with an eligible trade-in." Without the trade-in, you can expect the Galaxy S24 to cost $799, the S24+ will be $999, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra will start at $1,299. Shipping starts on January 31.
