At the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose on Wednesday, Samsung presenters showed off some of the cool things the company's on-device AI, based on Google's Gemini Nanotechnology and the new flagship series, Galaxy S24. "The Galaxy S24 series transforms our connection with the world and ignites the next decade of mobile innovation," said TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung Mobile Experience, in a statement. "Galaxy AI is built on our innovation heritage and deep understanding of how people use their phones. We're excited to see how our users around the world empower their everyday lives with Galaxy AI to open up new possibilities." Real Time Translation Samsung Drew Blackard, VP of Project Management, explained how AI on Galaxy S24 devices will let you talk, text, and chat in real time with people who use a different language than you do. Interpreter lets you talk on the phone with anyone who speaks one of the 13 languages supported at launch. If you’re using the Galaxy S24, then you can use the service with anyone, regardless of the phone they’re using. It also works in person, letting you talk with folks in the real world. There’s a written record of the conversation, too, so your conversational partner can see what it is you’re saying in their own language as well as hear it. Chat Assist adds conversational tones to help you manage your chats, from formal to chill tones, depending on who you’re talking to and when you’re talking to them. There’s even a Shakespearean tone for when you’re feeling super fancy. Samsung’s Heejin Chung took the stage to show off Note Assist, a new AI feature that lets you generate summaries, organize your notes, and even capture a transcript of a meeting via the native Voice recording app. Android Auto AI Samsung All of this AI goodness comes to your car, too, with Android Auto getting a way to summarize all those incoming messages and providing a way for you to take action on it, like sending someone your ETA or navigating to a friend’s location. Circle to Search Samsung Available across all 3 Galaxy S24 models, a new Google Search feature called Circle to Search will let you scribble on the screen to find things you’re interested in. It’s an easier way to search with images. It’s like Google Lens on steroids, making it possible to, Samsung says, do things like circling a landmark in the background of a photo on your friend’s social media feed. Depending on where you are, some searches will also add generative AI-powered information and context to your search results. Was this page helpful? Thanks for letting us know!
