Experience

Rob LeFebvre is an editor and writer who focuses on consumer and enterprise technologies for a broad range of outlets. He’s been writing online for more than 15 years; before that, Rob was a special education and IT consultant, running the computer networks for an educational agency.

Rob's relevant experience includes:

  • News, reviews, and features for a highly-regarded tech site, Engadget.
  • Technical articles for Storage Networking Industry Association and OpenStack Foundation.
  • Wrote for VentureBeat and Paste Magazine.
  • Created and edited graphic layouts for a local print digest real estate book.
  • Four years of writing news, two daily iOS and OS X tips and tricks posts, and numerous product reviews for Cult of Mac.
  • Years of writing product hands-on articles and trying out the latest gadgets for Lifewire's news program, including e-readers, smart speakers, e-bikes, routers, laptops, smartphones, and more.
  • Finding technology solutions for a diverse population of kids and adults with special needs.
  • Co-founded video game review sites GamesAreEvil and ThePortableGamer.
  • Managing editor of iOS apps review site, 148Apps.

Rob's been a teacher since the early 1990s and usually found a way to become the computer lab administrator at each school he worked at. While he generally managed Mac-based labs (from the ’90s to the present), he also played around with Windows labs (in the NT days) and has helped support Windows laptops over the years. Rob worked as a special education consultant at a local agency for 10 years, then ran the Mac-based network for an additional five years supporting the small team of people (15-20) who worked there. He then spent another couple of years using consumer and specialized technology to support adults and kids with special needs at a different non-profit agency in town.

My Gear

I use a 2022 MacBook Air M2 (running macOS Sonoma) and an iPad Pro 12.9-inch for my daily work, rocking Pixelmator, Trello, and various other Mac and iOS apps. I use an iPhone 15 Pro Max as my daily smartphone and an Apple Watch Series 7 but also play around with a OnePlus 12 and other Android devices to see how the other half lives. I also use an iPad 10.5-inch and various e-readers, and game on my Xbox One, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Oculus Quest 3, and abundant retro consoles and handhelds (not to mention my iPhone and iPad—I may have too many game devices).

Education

Rob received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UCLA and his Master of Special Education at CSUN, with a certificate in dual sensory impairments. He’s taken quite a few online certificate courses in graphic and web design, IT, and writing since then. He's always up to learn new things both formally and informally.
