Google Drops 7 New Everyday Android Features

Now you can edit messages for up to 15 minutes, control Google Home gadgets from your screen, and more

New features in Android promise to make your everyday actions easier and more useful.

Google announced seven new "everyday" features coming to its Android mobile operating system today, including the ability to edit your messages after you've sent them, an easier way to share hotspots, and more.

Google Messages will now let you edit your RCS messages, even after you've sent them, which can be a boon for those hastily written rants you send in the heat of the moment. Or a typo, I guess. All you do is tap and hold a sent RCS message up to 15 minutes after you've sent it, and boom, you're good to go.

Instant Hotspot is coming soon, which will let you connect your Android tablet or Chromebook to your phone's hotspot with a single tap. You won't have to enter a password, and you can even switch devices in the middle of a Google Meet call in case you need to move to your laptop from a phone session.

Want to control Google Home gadgets from your home screen? Now you can add the Google Home Favorites widget to your Android phone's main screen, letting you manage and control your favorite smart devices, like checking the temperature or turning off the lights without having to dip into the Google Home app. The widget is available for anyone in the Public Preview of Android. There's even a new Wear OS complication and tile to do the same thing.

Wear OS also gets more ways to pay with Google Wallet, with PayPal coming to the system. Pay for that morning breakfast sammy with your wrist, rather than having to pull out your phone at checkout time.

Digital car keys are now here for "select MINI models" and they'll arrive for Mercedes=Benz and Polestar cars soon. Unlock and start your car with your phone, and share keys with friends and family with ease.

Finally, there are new Emoji Kitchen sticker combos rolling out soon, too, with fun remixes like the disco ball and headphones. You'll be able to share the new stickers with friends via Gboard.
